Prepare in advance so you are not overwhelmed once the puppy arrives. You will need:

• A large, comfortable bed or Vetbed (you will need to upsize the bed very regularly as they grow).

• Puppy safe chew toys (rotate regularly to avoid boredom and choose toys that are classed as indestructible as some puppies can be great chewers as they are teething).

• Very large stainless steel food and water bowls (some puppies love to pick up and play in water so beware!) – have a towel or drip mat and or slobber towel to hand and get the puppy used to having their face and beard dried after they take a drink.

• Collar and ID tag (use a lightweight one to start off with and as the puppy grows for safety sake remove collars if you have a multi dog household and the hounds/dogs start to interact more and play.

A room with a baby gate or an x-pen set up (optional, but useful for training and safety) or at least a section of a room in your house where the puppy can retreat, rest and chill out. This is vital to ensure your puppy has adequate rest - they grow so fast and need to sleep a lot! It also teaches them about boundaries especially important if you are a multi-dog household.
